Brick By Brick: How Legos Became a Go-To Mental Activity for The Women's Basketball Elite
From the NCAA to the WNBA, the top women's basketball players in the nation have found mental refuge in building Lego sets. We talked to some to find out what makes it such a positive escape.
Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson is the leading scorer in NCAA women’s basketball. During the frenetic pace of a game, where she averages nearly 25 points a night, life slows down a little bit. She crosses, changes directions, starts, stops and finishes in increasingly creative ways. Every possession up and down the court is a unique and ever-changing challenge, a complex puzzle that she has to piece together in 30 seconds or less.
Naturally, by the end of the game, she’s spent mentally and physically. Where some athletes find an escape in the world of books, video games or Netflix’s newest show, Latson and a growing number of star women’s basketball players are doing something else: building increasingly elaborate Lego sets.
