Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi announced her retirement on Wednesday in an exclusive with TIME Magazine, wrapping up a career that spans over two decades. She won 3 WNBA championships, 3 NCAA titles, while also collecting several more rings — 11 if you count Russia, Turkey and the EuroLeague — along the way.
If there was anyone that deserved to walk away from the game on their own terms and in their own time, it was DT. A woman truly in the Greatest of All Time conversation and a foundational figure in basketball, and women’s sports for that matter.
“I have a resume,” she told TIME. “It’s not up to me to grade it.”
The ones who talk like that are those who have the security in knowing they can stand on their resume. There’s less than a dozen women living who can go to sleep every night feeling that way. Diana Taurasi is one of them.
