Questions Raised, Questions Answered - Ally Tipoff
The NCS Crew has some questions for all four teams playing in the Ally Tipoff
Charlotte, N.C. — The women's college basketball season is underway and with the first big tournament of the year we have questions for the South Carolina Gamecocks, NC State Wolfpack, Iowa Hawkeyes and Virginia Tech Hokies.
QUESTIONS RAISED
SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS
Who's the top dawg with Kamilla gone?- it's no secret Kamilla Cardoso was the anchor of last year's championship team. From her dominant post play to her veteran leadership the Gamecocks have some big shoes to fill and a few options to do it.
Which guard will take a leap? - South Carolina has had a steady stream of dominant bigs the last few years and this year they have the talent in the frontcourt to continue that streak. The question is which guard will step up and become the steady scoring threat. USC has the luxury of keeping it balanced and getting it done by committee so look out for how Dawn Staley wants to play it.
NC STATE WOLFPACK
Does NCST have an answer for SC's frontcourt depth? - After losing Mimi Collins and River Baldwin (graduation) the Wolfpack hopped into their portal bag and grabbed Caitlin Weimar (Boston University). The graduate transfer averaged 18.7 PPG and 10.6 RPG last season, and this was something NCST was looking forward until things took a turn. It was announced on October 24th that Weimar's debut in a Wolfpack uniform has been delayed due to a hip injury that required surgery. There's no timeline for her return, and that's bad news for Wes Moore and Co. as they will once again rely heavily on their guard play but this time without any veteran post players until Weimar is cleared.
VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES
Who will emerge as the next big player? - Hokie legend Liz Kitley is in attendance at the Ally Tipoff and the question is; who's next?
Can Megan Duffy make waves in the ACC year one? - former head coach Kenny Brooks consistently had the Hokies at the top of the conference. Can Megan Duffy follow that up with some dominance of her own or is this a complete rebuild?
IOWA HAWKEYES
How will the Hawkeyes replace Caitlin Clark? - Kate Martin is in the building to cheer on her former teammates and while the Hawkeyes will certainly miss her and her best friend’s presence, did they retain and gain enough talent to contend for a Big 10 championship?
What position is Hannah Stuelke? - There are some early season clips of Hannah Stuelke confidently shooting and hitting the deep ball. With Clark, Martin and Gabby Marshall gone, will we see more Stuelke around the perimeter?
