Nice hatchet job on Stanford. You failed to mention that Lauren was playing behind Cameron Brink and Kiki Iriafen. Lauren would have known that when she was coming in and she would have known what Tara's system was going to be. Lauren and her family should take some responsibility for the situation.

Andrew is not the only one to report how Lauren felt at Stanford. This article just dropped today: https://www.si.com/college-basketball/how-lauren-betts-found-basketball-joy-again-at-ucla

The author describes how Vanderveer completely severed communications with Michelle (her mother) even before Lauren stepped foot on campus, and only spoke to Andy (her father) once only after he requested a meeting during her lone year. All the while still attending Sienna's high school games to recruit her. The onus isn't all on Stanford but there was definitely some strange behavior going on

Correct, and there's other things that I've heard from a variety of sources at Stanford and around the Pac-12 about the program during those years. This is where it's hard to publicly rebut certain things because doing so risks outing sources or betraying off-the-record discussions.

Let's not rush to judgement. Tara's system was rigid in its roles and that's pretty well understood by most contemporaries in women's basketball. While there was a logjam of players upfront, I don't know if there's an argument against Lauren being underutilized in her time there. And, as mentioned in the story, a lot goes into a transfer decision beyond the basketball.

Mentioning Cam & Kiki would have given some perspective that she was sitting behind 2 All Americans. And if Tara's system was well known as you mention certainly Lauren would have known that. Lauren had issues before entering Stanford and that played a large part of her issues.

Just be even handed and not place blame, that's all.

I don't think that a person's general struggles with confidence should be used as a cudgel to explain away why they might not have fit in a certain system. I don't blame Stanford but that part of the story serves to explain her reasoning for leaving.
