The story of Pearl Moore is the story of the AIAW and the achievements washed away by the NCAA. But she, and her Francis Marion Patriots team, now hold a unique perch among South Carolina hoop greats.
We did play each other. Small world. I remember Debbie Hill and Sandra Caudle, Vicki Wilson. I graduated in 71. When did you graduate? Yall were our toughest competition.
I did play softball until I was about 65. Fun times.
I also graduated in 1971. Yall were also our toughest competition. You named three of the toughest. I was a bench player who went in for defense.
I remember Coach Wrenn telling us if someone tried to go to the basket, you give them something to remember. And we did. Such ladies lol. I also could be a streak shooter. If I was hitting, just let me go.
I hope you have a great holiday! What an unexpected but great walk down memory lane.
I remember playing you in hs. I went to Southside and if I remember correctly you played for Darlington. I think you burned me because you were a lefty and I didn’t see that. My bad. If I am wrong about this, sorry. I also think I played you in softball leagues.
I lived in Florence, SC when Pearl Moore played. I would go watch her at FMU every chance I could get. She was a wizard. She was not tall but she could do whatever she wanted on the court. LaRue Fields was on my HS basketball team at Southside in Florence. She really blossomed at FMU. I am so glad that Pearl is getting her due and LaRue is being recognized. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like if they came along later in time. I know they would have held their own.

Thanks for reminding me.

(I went by Lynn)
I played with Pearl when she first came to FMU. We were so happy to have her on our team.
We are good friends and used to go to the Final Four game; until COVID.
Thanks for writing this wonderful story about Pearl.

Wow, as a South Carolinian and avid Women’s basketball fan I feel robbed never getting to learn about this. I love this series so much!
This is a wonderful article and an important story to continue sharing. And how amazing to learn even more from Beulah & Becky!
